LINES

The lines are not a result of movement of the hand. Research shows that most right handed people have more lines on their left hand than their right hand (which is used more often). The lines are also more pronounced when the hand is stretched open, this not the case with lines on the body where movement takes place. Every line represents a specific aspect of the individual. The lines reflect energy levels and potential. They change constantly and facts such as diet, stress levels and exercise have an influence on these changes. The lines can be divided into three categories, Main Lines, Secondary Lines and Subsidiary Lines & Markings.

The three main lines are:

WATER: HEART LINE

(This line reflects emotional capacity, degree of sympathy & compassion, physical ability of the body)

EARTH: LIFE LINE

(This line reflects amount and quantity of physical energy, capacity for living and ability to enjoy it)

AIR: HEAD LINE

(This line reflects cognitive abilities, how information is processed, ability to convey thoughts)

Chirology distinguishes four hand shapes which are related to the four elements: Air, Earth, Fire and Water. The form of the palm and the length of the fingers determine the shape of the hand. Principles and characteristics associated with these elements provide the source for personality profiles. Your hand shape tells of your 'element of expression'.

DERMATOGLYPHICS

Dermatoglyphics is the study of the skin's papillary ridge patterns. The word dermatoglyphics is derived from two Greek words 'derma' meaning skin and 'glyphe' meaning carve and refers to the friction ridges formations which appear on the palms of the hands. The ridge formations of the skin of an individual begin to appear during the third and fourth month of fetal development. These patterns are linked to medical and psychological conditions.

They are permanent patterns of the hand and regarded as reliable indicators of personality. A distinction is also made

between palmar and digital dermatoglyphics.
