The term “chirology” is derived from the Greek word “kheri” meaning hand and the suffix “ology” describes a field of study or academic discipline. A chirologist is therefore a person who studies the hand. It should be mentioned that a variation in the spelling of Chirology/Cheirology occurs in literature, but refers to the same term. Hippocrates (460-357 BCE), the father of modern medicine, used the study of the hands as a diagnostic tool and clinical aid.  

 

Just as alchemy developed into scientific chemistry and astrology into astronomy, palmistry developed into chirology. Chirology is utilized to uncover the messages the brain communicates through the lines, markings and other profound characteristics of the hands.
